About: About Us

Background Coalition Latino Covid

  • Austin Round Rock Metroplex covers 4,222 square miles with a population of 2,227,083. Latinos form 33% of that population, 20% of households speak Spanish at home (1).

  • In January 2021, vaccination rate among White people was over two and one half times higher than the rate for Hispanic people (13% vs.5%)(2)

  • Hispanic Adults about a third (37%) said they wanted to" wait and see" how the vaccine works on other people, compared to a quarter ( 25%) of Whites(3)

Latinos face four major obstacles:

1) Administration of Vaccine close to home (not be addressed in the grant except through lobbying, targeting information for Pop Up vaccine site development in the barrios),

2) Digital interface to make vaccination appointments,

3) Multigenerational households scheduled rather than individuals, and

4) Information from trusted sources in the polarized environment.

Coalition Latino Covid Will Spread the Word to the Community

  • Board members will use the county medical and dental societies to contact practitioners in the Latino community. We plan personal contact, with assistance of retired physicians and dentists. Faith leaders will run a parallel operation and visit to churches, talks to congregations.

  • We will distribute single page education sheets with contact information for website and phone bank to Doctors, Dentists to be distributed in waiting rooms. Faith Leaders will also receive single page education/contact sheets.

Coalition Latino Covid Has Direct Intervention

  • Community-The Program manager will target Community health worker visits with laptops, hot spot access. The strategy will be to register households.

  • Remote Tools- Website with chat feature(4), 1-800 phone bank
